Functioning of Lokpal


The institution of Lokpal has been functioning since the appointment of its Chairperson and eight Members in March, 2019.Lokpal is an independent statutory body established under section 3 of the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013. In terms of Section 48 of the said Act, the Lokpal is required to present annually to the President a report on the work done by it, which is caused to be laid in both the Houses of the Parliament.

The Government has sanctioned 124 posts for the Lokpal at various levels including that of the Joint Secretary, Director/Deputy Secretary, Under Secretary, Section Officer, Accounts Officer as well as secretarial and support staff.

This information was given by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
