Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, ended up in a major controversy after he made a derogatory comment over Smita Prakash. Rahul Gandhi, during his press conference, had said the Modi Interview was staged and conducted by a ‘pliable journalist’, directly attacking the editor of ANI.

The editor lashed him on twitter saying

‘Dear Mr Rahul Gandhi, cheap shot at your press conference to attack me. I was asking questions not answering. You want to attack Mr Modi, go ahead but downright absurd to ridicule me

Dear Mr Rahul Gandhi, cheap shot at your press conference to attack me. I was asking questions not answering. You want to attack Mr Modi, go ahead but downright absurd to ridicule me. Not expected of a president of the oldest political party in the country.— Smita Prakash (@smitaprakash) January 2, 2019

While Rahul Gandhi neither apologized nor responded, the act was condemned by several journalists and media operators.

The diplomatic affairs editor of the Hindu, Suhasini Halder tweeted

By using terms like “pliable”, “presstitute”,”paid media”,our political establishment, aided by their troll armies, show their scant respect for the fourth estate. Shameful comment by the Congress President. https://t.co/XJ3gGzOAXK— Suhasini Haidar (@suhasinih) January 3, 2019

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley stood up with the editor and said “The Grandson of the ‘Emergency dictator’ displays his real DNA – attacks and intimidates an independent Editor.”

The National Union of Journalist extended it’s support by tweeting

The public gave a mixed response to the series of events. A sarcastic note challenged Congress to stop protecting it’s “50 year old kid”. While another recalled Arnab Goswami’s interview with Rahul Gandhi when Jairam Ramesh and Priyanka Gandhi had to show playcards to assist his interview.

@RahulGandhi interview of 2014 with @republic arnab was memorable one. @RahulGandhi Should do someting of it, he had not given Single interview to news channels @INCIndia Take a note of it, instead of ptotecting 50 year old kid, provide environment to grow and become adult.— Chirag V Sheth (@ChiragSheth369) January 3, 2019
